Dancers tell stories and communicate thoughts through dance performances. Dancers often perform with a group and have the ability to dance to different forms of music such as modern, ballet, or musical theater. A dancer may perform for TV shows, movies, ballets, and dance recitals.

As a dancer, you will practice and learn choreography for assigned roles and harmonize body movements to the rhythm of musical accompaniment. Work out and participate in dance classes to maintain high levels of physical health and fitness. Dancers perform in shows, singing or acting in addition to dancing if needed. Dance in unison with other dancers or in coordination with a dance ensemble. As you start to embark on this journey you will gain awareness in understanding your body’s strengths and weaknesses, where your current limitations are, and where there is room for improvement or room for growth.

A dancer should practice consistently and prepare for auditions and rehearsals. They also spend a significant amount of time learning complicated steps and must be able to remember choreography.

Dancers may perform in a variety of dance styles such as ballet, lyrical, modern, contemporary, and acro. You will easily become familiar with the different styles of dance as you become comfortable expressing yourself creatively and by collaborating with other dancers on projects and different performances.
